FNO NYC 2012: Event details
Attention Fashionistas!
If you're planning on attending NYC's Fashion's Night Out, here are some great events to check out. Criselda Trillana from doMain New York (fashion public relations and marketing firm) emailed me the details of two FNO events:
Beauty & EssexThe storefront Pawn Shop of LES hot-spot Beauty & Essex restaurant is hosting its own unique party featuring curator & "gold-girl," Lauren Kaminsky along with the "fashion forward stylist" David Lerner. Kaminsky and Lerner have teamed up to offer special embellished pieces for the evening, along with styling advice that mixes high-quality clothing with over-the-top accessories. Sip on free champagne while shopping and accessorizing all under one roof.
Free champagne while ‘partying in the pawn’ is just the beginning. Receive a free photo engraving and Beauty & Essex gift-card with purchases over $250 and don’t forget to mention Fashion's Night Out while booking your dinner reservation and receive a complimentary cocktail and dessert.
[Beauty and Essex is located at 146 Essex Street and the event will run from 6 pm-11 pm]
QVCQVC is scheduled to broadcast live from New York City during FNO, from 9 PM to Midnight (ET), with an impressive lineup of designers, stylists and celebrities who will present the latest in fall fashion and beauty.
QVC will also engage the public in a unique interactive experience in the Meatpacking District at the intersection of 14th Street and 9th Avenue beginning at 6 PM. The event is designed to creatively showcase some of QVC’s hottest fashion and beauty products and will feature various celebrity appearances, along with giveaways.
Jennifer Hudson, in her QVC debut, along with Isaac Mizrahi, and Nicole Richie are among those who will introduce exciting new offerings during the broadcast.
Thanks for the heads up, Criselda!

The Art of Mixing Prints
I'm not a big fan of wearing perfectly and meticulously matched outfits. In fact, my favorite outfits consist of opposing elements that usually don't go together but when they do, they create a pleasing juxtaposition. For example, toss a tough leather jacket on top of a lacey dress. Wa-la! You're a walking contradiction.
Contradictions are interesting and attractive.
So are mixed patterns. Another of my favorite mixed elements are stripes and floral. In a way, these two are contradictions; stripes are orderly, straight, and composed. Floral prints are spontaneous.
I wore a stripe and floral combo the other day, (The lesser quality photos below...ahem). I also paired the outfit with a tough, studded backpack for even more of a contradiction.
The first picture looks like I have a very muscular quad....

Have fun with it.

Fashion's Night Out 2012
With the arrival of the Fall season, and the start of a new school year, also comes another exciting event in September: Fashion's Night Out.
FNO, sponsored by Vogue and the CFDA, started in 2009 in New York City, as a way to encourage and stimulate consumerism and revitalize the fashion world in the wake of the 2008 economic recession. FNO is composed of various events including extravagant sample sales, celebrity appearances, store markdowns, giveaways, drinks, etc.
I've always wanted to attend the NYC FNO, especially since this year, it's marked to be the biggest fashion event in history with high profile appearances, (The Olsen twins, Sarah Jessica Parker), but it's always been when I had to go back to boarding school.
This year, for college, I'm staying in Boston but I doubt I can make the trip to nyc, since it's on a school night (I am such a goodie two shoes).
Boston does have its own FNO, so I'll definitely be checking that out. (http://fnoboston.com/)
Tons of other major cities are also participating, I am sure the exact locations and dates can be listed on the official website: http://fashionsnightout.com/
For all you New Yorker Fashionistas, needless to say, I'm jealous. Hoping next year will be my year...

Inspired by...
Cheers to a first post! I'm kicking it off with some images of some fabulously dressed ladies who have recently quenched my sartorial hunger.

I am loving the result of combining different prints shown in the first picture: stripes, leopard, and sequins. Quirky and unexpectedly cool.
The combination of different elements is also present in the next photo: boho flair and a bit of edge. The dress with the kimono paired with tough boots and a studded bracelet is perfect juxtaposition.
Sexy as always, Miranda Kerr demonstrates how to look put together, pretty, and quite comfortable when on the go.
Getting through summer's heat (although almost gone) is easy with simple pieces that look great put together in the last photo.
I might post my own outfit posts sometime in the future.
